Group Counseling for international teenagers

7 weeks of sessions

This group is for teenagers between 14 and 17 years old, who are experiencing difficulties adjusting to a new country, culture, and norms while trying to develop a sense of self, finding personal strengths and values, developing a social life and connecting with peers. One of the most powerful aspects of Teen Group Therapy is that especially for teens, the importance of peer interaction is crucial as a tool for healing and growing. The power of peer relationships, and therefore the possibility for meaningful positive engagement and encouragement within group therapy sessions, is stronger at this stage of human development than at any other. This provides unique opportunities for therapeutic interventions, especially when used in combination with individual therapy sessions. It is a non-judgmental space with room for differences (heart, mind and body) in a supportive environment where group members will connect with others who face similar issues.

We will explore relevant bi-weekly themes such as: Introduction/Who am I, Teenage Life in Denmark (and internationally), Relationships and Social Skills, Wellness and Teen Life by sharing personal stories, using assessments, creating coping and action plans and occasionally use art as a facilitator. The group´s focus and themes will be based on group members needs and interest. (for more details on themes and content, please contact Counseling & Culture).
